I really love the update overall, but I think the wings are a little too small. They look out of proportion with the rest of the body, especially the stocky legs.
Coming back to this, the gold could stand to be brighter if you continue with the gold/green on the red ground. Right now they have very little contrast.
Yeah, it's gonna need some of these changes mentioned, that's for sure.
The more I look at the green/yellow/red combination the less I like it, and wouldn't the wings look nicer white? The ears further forward as well, like, more perky.

Pleasepleaseplease make the muzzle wider so it actually looks like a hippo face. And make it more forward-pointing than down-pointing. The face looks really awkward as it is, but I like the new markings and the tail, etc.
I...I'm fairly disturbed by the whole thing. Nothing about it seems nice or appealing to me. I was never a fan before but I dont think hate would be too strong of a word for my current opinion of where its heading toward becoming. Its like..completely unrealistic. I think I can see a little realism in just about every pet on the site (that I can think of ATM) but this...thing....as we will no longer be referring to it by its former name, is SO unrealistic that its become unfavorable.
If I were to try and explain everything I dislike about it and why, Im quite certain I'd run out of room. Please go back to the drawing board, wipe it clean, and try again? It does have potential in there somewhere, it's just hiding.

I think his wings could be larger, they were a nice part of the old design and it's sad to see them go for some puny "chibi" wings.
Also, the overall anatomy is a little strange. The body seems very fat and round and the legs don't fit with this body type. The snout should be wider as well, especially since it's square. There isn't anything wrong with a nice wide snout!
The dark stripe should just go... I mean, I can't really think of something better (and you need so many different colors on this thing, right?) but it has an armadillo look now that isn't coming off very nicely.
Otherwise I think it's pretty nice, and I'm glad to see it finally getting a revamp.

but I like this revamp o: the old hipposaru didn't have much to it at all and I think it's nice that there are a few more markings being put to it- but just suggest maybe lighten up on the chain markings a bit because they look a tad bit overdone, and I agree to keep how the chain markings are going on the front legs with the back legs (though I do see what it's supposed to be doing, but I think it looks a lot better with how the front legs were done)

First of all, really like the design. I like the anatomy style going here, it looks great. Those jewelry-like markings are a great idea.
Now, onto the points:

- The design on the hind leg. At first, I thought it was a single line that, instead of going along the front of the limb like the front leg, went straight down the side. It took me a long while, and some very close observation, to see that the chain-like spots actually divide to go around the knee. I really, really think that if the design worked like the one on the front leg, and went down the front of the hind leg along the knee and then down the foot, it would look much more aesthetically pleasing overall. Right now it just looks like it's just meandering down the side of the leg with no real idea of where it's going.
- The ear edges are too thick, I think. Thinning them out will make them look much much better.
- The snout needs to be a bit wider. It's a bit squished right now, I keep trying to imagine a skull that would fit there and I can't... Haha, I know, strange thing to think of. A wider snout would look more natural, and it'll help give it a hippo look.
Those are the points that really stuck out to me. Hope they help. :3
hmmmmm Well I read most of these comments. It seems to me that the markings need to be a bit different ( I think something more...african-ish would be nicer. OR different coloured dots! ) And that the wings definatly need to be bigger ( I agree with this, however the logic behind it is dumb. Who cares if the wings are not proportional? Bees don't have wings that can support them! and they CAN fly! This really is a pointless comment to make though. )

I think this is an exceptional redraw, I absolutely love this new look, the eyes and facial expression are simply wonderful, since subeta is changing it's name, I in fact don't mind it not looking like a hippo. It is like a whole new pet basically.

Great art, love the new markings. Besides the wings, my only other concerns are that it's no longer very hippo-like('course, what do I know?) and the positioning of the right hind leg.

This thing reminds me of the Bori on neopets.

I like the spots, but I think they should be a different color - the green/yellow doesn't really go well with the base color, imo. I also like the suggestions of bigger wings (whether chibi or normal type), and a wider muzzle.

I like the new design, the markings are a nice touch, and the drawing itself is very nice as well. But there's something bothering me about the ears, they're a little too pointy and the pink area is too small. I love it c: I never really liked hippo or elephant pets looking like, well, hippos or elephants with things stuck on them. This is quite a bit more unique. I'm not sure I like the wings anymore though, they're kinda...pointless. If it's gonna fly, let it fly!

I like the revamp, the art is wonderful, but for some reason it looks odd with those wings. I liked the old wings and think maybe a newer version of those wings could be added to the revamp because it looks odd with smaller wings.

There is something...odd... about the revamp. It doesn't look... well, hippo enough. The snout isn't wide enough for a start. the spots also look kind of odd and out of place, I think it would benefit more with complementary colours rather than that garish green?

Very nice! The added markings ease my doubts about the Hipposaru's viability as a likeable pet. I would make it a little chubbier (make the body and belly take more space than the legs!) and more like a hippo --- this one looks buck-toothed because of the snout being too thin.
The ears make it look too generic and much too much like other species on subeta. Making the ears small, like a real hippo's, will steer the species away from the generic feathered dragon look. I for one vote for vestigial wing spines the same colour as the body --- like a chicken's without feathers or the structures on the Experiment 84, except thinner.

I have to say this is the first revamp that I really REALLY don't like. It doesn't look like the same pet anymore at all. Before it was really cute and cuddly looking and now it looks more like something I would expect to find in "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them"... the art is exceptional but I don't feel like it is the same pet anymore at all. I loved hipposaru... now I just.... don't. Not a BIG deal I don't even have one, but... I don't like how the nature of the pet has changed with the artwork.
I voted for the old version, even though the new art is better. It looks nothing like a hippo anymore :/

I think I pretty much agree with most other people in that the muzzle needs to be a bit wider/shorter, and I like the idea of continuing the dark stripe down the face. Like others have said, the right foreleg seems weird, like it's angling too much towards the viewer. If that makes sense. :p
But, otherwise, I love it so much! I say keep the chibi wings. x3

I'm really not fond of the head as is, but <a href="/users/Tiki" rel="Tiki"><img src="http://images.subeta.net/icons/gold.gif" border="0">Tiki</a>'s darker stripe and wider muzzle solved that for me quite nicely. So I'd personally like to see the eventual pet go somewhat in that direction.

Wow! Very nice, very nice indeed... However, I do have to agree with the others about the wings. They should be much larger, like the angelics. There's no reason why common species can't have big wings... As for the body, it looks fine to me. No more incorrect than the dinosaur anatomy of <i>Land Before Time</i>, which makes me like this revamp all the more.

I definitely think the hipposaru was in desperate need of an update. After much consideration (I thought about it for a couple of hours), I voted old. I like the more hippo-like qualities that the old hipposaru possessed, though the quality of the new art is amazing. I agree with the others that the snout is just a bit too narrow. I love the bindi-like markings but, to be honest, I don't quite understand them. I think I'd like them more if they were colored to look like actual markings instead of accessories/jewelry. I'd like to know what the markings would look like on other color fills to determine if I like them, though. The wings don't bother me, but I can see what others are saying. I think Tiki's re-draw of the re-draw is fabulous. If this revamp is the official new hipposaru, or whatever the name is being changed to, I truly wouldn't mind. The art is gorgeous, the ideas are interesting and creative, but just some minor tweaking would make it fantastic all around.

i lovelovelovelovelove tiki's version~ looks so much better. snout looks awesome, the continuation of the dark spot looks awesome, and the wings look awesome. i think it even makes up for its stiff looking ears. speaking of the ears before they seemed kinda floppy and cute but now they're stiff and pointy and kinda resemble horns to me. and he also seems kinda skinny to me, i'd prefer if he was a little chubbier <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

I love these guys! I voted new, BUT it could use some tweaks. I LOVED the larger wings, even if they couldn't fly with them. The muzzle could be wider like before. Other than that, it's wonderful! <3
Not gonna lie, this is the first revamp of a pet/item that I actually do not like. The art, is great obviously, but it just seems a bit off and the original just was silly and adorable.
No offense to the artist, but I don't really like it at all. ^^ The teeth look like my bf's (what we call 'retard teeth' and despite loving my bf very much, I don't love the new hipposaru <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />). I also don't like the tiny wings or the pointed ears and I don't like the markings, either. ^^ The old hipposaru might not have been great either IMO (I don't care for hippos), but it at least has a kinda 'cute' look to it that this one is lacking (for me, anyway).

I love how people're saying hippos could possibly fly with bigger wings. Uhm, no. Anatomically speaking, it's impossible - anything that weighs more than 150lbs in BODY WEIGHT (not wing weight) would find it impossible to fly. At all. Especially if you way over a ton, because the wings would be too big for the muscles to control them. Either way, unless assisted by magic or machine, the wings would serve no purpose and be entirely ornamental.

i like the update. .. i really do. but... (of course someone has to throw in a but) it is almost like a new species altogether. it is close to the original. but.. not the same but updated with detail and stuff. too much has changed. i really hope, but have a feeling it won't happen, that the old one stays or the new one has some changes made so it is more like the old one's shape and stuff. like the larger nose, and how it looked.. just.. larger. not slim. and unhippo like, cute, but unhippo like. thought he original orginal wings were smell too, i like the large ones... but.. small ones are cool too i guess.
