Fantine's Bakery: Rebuilt!

Fantine's Bakery has been rebuilt, and starting today everyone has it! Some of you have been baking in it for the last few days as testers, and a lot of what's in it now came straight from your poll and forum answers. Head to the kitchen to take a look, and Fantine's Guide explains everything.

The old bakery gave you one oven, a dropdown for every ingredient, and if you scorched one of Fantine's pans you couldn't bake again until you bought her a new one. That's all different now 🥖.

You get up to four ovens. The second one opens at baking level 5, the third at 10 and the fourth at 20, and each oven runs on its own timer. Fill all ovens puts a recipe in every empty one at once.

The pantry holds your ingredients, and bakes use what's in there before anything in your inventory. You can move a whole stack in at once, and Account Search finds what's in it.

The recipe book sorts every recipe into Ready to bake, Missing a few things, and Higher level, and you can sort it by level, name, fewest missing or least baked. A recipe you can't make yet lists what it needs, with a link to the shop that sells each ingredient, a shop search and an account search.

Every bake that doesn't burn counts toward a ribbon for that recipe, starting at Beginner and going all the way up to Grand Baker at 100 bakes. Your Recipe Journal keeps track, and there's a Baking section you can add to your profile (here's how the profile editor works).

Fantine also buys baked goods now! Her counter is in the Farmer's Market, she'll take up to 20 a day, and the better your ribbon for a recipe, the more she pays for it.

The burn is rolled when you collect, so a finished bake can sit in the oven as long as you like. A scorched pan is an achievement now instead of a lockout. Past level 20, every level makes your bakes a little faster and a little less likely to burn, up to level 50. You can turn on alerts in the kitchen to get an event when an oven finishes, and the bakery is on the Dailies list.

There are ten baking achievements, with prizes that include titles like Flour-Dusted and Head Baker, and two new name plates, Lattice Crust and Oven Glow.

Your baking level and XP came with you, and anything you had in the old oven moved into your first one. Ribbons and the Journal start fresh, because the old bakery never kept track of which recipes you baked.

Ingredients have been the biggest complaint, so the Food Market now restocks baking staples like flour, sugar, butter, milk and eggs as common items, and more ingredients count than before, like plant milks, sanding sugars and nut butters.

She has a quest now too, Fantine's Baking Class! She's outfitting her students, so she asks for two baking tools or pieces of kitchenware. Every quest pays 9 to 13 baking ingredients, four different ones: a staple like flour or eggs, baking powder, baking soda or yeast, and two things recipes ask for by name, like heavy whipping cream or canola oil. The more recipes use an ingredient, the more often she pays it. You can do it 5 times a day, or 8 with a Gold Account, and recipes you're missing things for link straight to her.

From the text I understood that previous baking experiences carry over? Or do I have to start at scratch again?
Yuzuru
Maybe I can finally bake the
Skewered Pastries
that I designed hundreds of years ago 😂 I always wanted to bake it myself after winning the design contest, but the old system was so cumbersome I gave up
nada
not loving the fact that all the recipes are "not baked yet" despite me being at lvl 21 having baked everything before... not going back to that grind for the foreseeable future
Tachi
I would love to have an organization option for bake time to better help bake different things at once that end around the sameand for baked Most to help with leveling ribbons.
Fantine has Always had really inflated items and part of her has always been that their is a Specific item that makes the recipe the recipe. I have not been baking much recently but I'm also a level 16.
I love the pantry just like i love the seed storage. Giving places their own personal vaults essentially is a really solid quality of life thing.

If our pets can eat items like the smiley apple/pear, why cant we be allowed to bake them up too?
brokensafety
Food Market Shipment 19 minutes ago Yeah, I don't know why this became the norm, but the main shops used to restock every 5 to 6 minutes. To sit around and wait 20 minutes for a restock of like 2 of an item that hundreds of people need for a single recipe is just not going to cut it. Is it possible to increase the restock rate of main shops?

FINALLY!!! The update I have been waiting for before delving into baking! These all look like fantastic updates and I'm really looking forward to it - and getting those achievements! Thank you so much to the team for implementing!
skydreamer
I absolutely love and am excited for this update. I am smiling and happy.
I will ask if some items like the raisin porridge (I think that's what it was) that's an ingredient for a level 1 recipe come in Fantine quests as a reward? Because I looked it up in shops and there were only three at like, 50 mil. </3 I will never make that recipe at those prices. Ever.

I've enjoyed testing this out before it was rolled out, had not clue it wasn't for all just yet. That said, I like the set up. I did find it frustrating that certain ingredients have gone up ridiculously, again. Excited for the ribbons and everything else to come. Thank you.

Has anyone made a full guide yet? I would like to know what ingredients all the recipes need, including the ones I haven't unlocked yet so I can start stockpiling. I mean besides the basic ingredients like flour, egg, milk, ect.
JaceGem
Ooh, are we gonna get new recipes to make at some point too?
Skolletta
Loving the bakery! Glad I had a lot of hoarded ingredients and could buy more from NPC shops directly.
Rec to users who don't have ingredients stored away: stalk the food market and buy the overstocked ingredients when they come up!
springblom
I LOVE this. It makes it so much more interesting. I do wish there was somewhere a master pantry guide so that I could see a list of everything that I can add to my pantry , because I'm a squirrel. But this is so fun. Thank you!

Fantine is my favourite NPC, thank you so much!
Moony
Thanks for the changes, excited to check this out! Baking is cool
Damon
Don't forget to do Fantine quests to get some baking ingredients. :)
Xezvi
I see I'll have to do my duty by completing all of Fantine's quests every day to combat inflation!
Spatial
yeah the inflation is crazy on these, won't be baking for the forseeable future. Did the testing group have the same ingredient list and just gobble up all the available stock or did they balloon to million sp ingredients just since the news post?
Grishiu
Are there any plans to add new recipes at all? I've been baking on and off on the old system and the one thing that kept me from baking more is the lack of new recipes. Can't say that adding quests will make me more likely to bake. The only real incentive I have is to feed my pet more foods :(

I've got my own ideas for new recipes to add, maybe there could be some sort of a contest or something
SYLVAN
Looking through the recipes it would be useful to have the option of using alternative items as ingredients rather than just one very specific item. For instance, in the case of the Caraway Seed Cake, we can only use the item 'Caraway Seeds' but it won't let me use 'Basket of Caraway Seeds'.
Senti
Is there any way after we bake an item that you could darken the item baked so we don't have to keep reading what we have and haven't baked?
Bendy_Demon
@DruidHeart

Well then I will move all that back into my storage and only take out the basics I suppose.
Thank you :)
DruidHeart
@Bendy_Demon My guess is that the things that didn't move over to the pantry aren't going to be ingredients used in the recipes. I bought a bunch of stuff before the update, thinking that they might be in later recipes, and some of that stuff stayed in my inventory too.
SYLVAN
This looks AWESOME! Also, thank you for Fantine's Quests giving out baking ingredients. :D Hopefully the new quests will help to calm down the inflation.
Balloon
Yeah the inflation of ingredients is keeping me from baking. I'm just on level one, so I can only make two recipes, each of which has at least one ingredient that's been inflated. (Love the shop selling them for 100 mil...) I'm not paying 500k for just one ingredient, so no baking for me until the inflation dies down.
Bendy_Demon
I am sorry..maybe I am thick headed but i moved some stuff from a gallery (food related) to my inventory then clicked a button saying move all to pantry but it is still in my inventory. Did I miss something?
Wildflower
I love the counter addition! It does give purpose in baking recipes outside of pure level gain.
Faizh
YESSSS, I LOVE IT
marvel
this is so good, i love it

now to wait for the inflation to go down 🧍
CollectiveMenagerie
I love this, but it's hard to get started because some of the required ingredients for the beginner recipes are so inflated and expensive. Adding in that I'd love to see something to help with this in some way so progress isn't locked behind needing to pay a few hundred thousand for ingredients for the two starter recipes.
stars_water
Ooohhhh, I can finally stop using up some random shop slot for a baking ingredients gallery! AWESOME!

And I love how the quests are actually beginning to be USEFUL, instead of just for getting junk and currency. This is helping make the world of subeta feel more connected and actually game-like too, instead of just some exhausting marketing sim that happens to have other elements.
LizardLady
This site has so many things, I didn't even know there was an original Fantine's Bakery.. I just thought it was the shop lmao
Chinchilla
Just noticed the drop down menus, my bad!
DruidHeart
Awwww, hell heck yeah! 😄 I feel so lucky that this came out the day I decide to do baking stuff, haha. I haven't seen it yet but already love that there's going to be a pantry; stocking up during RS's to avoid paying inflated prices filled my inventory quick, even with a GA. I'm eager to get in and start with the new features!

The only mildly related thing I want to add is in regards to inflation. I get that users want to make profits in their shops, but the amount of price jacking happening for some of the ingredients is absurd. It is not the site's fault in any way, but I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one that would appreciate something being implemented to help that. Like price caps for items that restock in NPC shops that vary by rarity or something? Profiting is fine, sticking user shops with rsing is fine, ludicrous prices because you can is not.
Haswari
I love the new pantry feature!
Chinchilla
Will there be a list of items that you can go in your pantry? I'd love to look through my vault to see what ingredients I have already.
ethan
i've been enjoying the baking update! i never really used baking before cuz i found it confusing and not very engaging. this refresh really helps the standard align with all the other recent changes, so everything works great together and the baking aspect is very intuitive. i also love the pantry feature, because it prevents a random 'storage' gallery or vault category jsut for stockpiling ingredients. thanks so much for all these changes, so many features of the site that i didn't use to touch are now massive parts of my daily time on subeta!
Lea
Excited to try this but man some of the required items for the beginner recipes are SO overly inflated (400-500k+) that I think I'll hold off for a bit, lol. This seems really fun though!! I'm excited! Love how many updates and revamps there have been lately!
TaNi
oh great, i was hoping it would be released for the general public sooner rather than later! my inventory is thankful for the ability to stock the pantry
i'm excited to start baking (:
Bright_Shadow
I think it would be nice if the recipes were less specific. Right now certain items have gotten super inflated. Or, please stock the recipe items, all of them, in greater quantities at the food market, and have Fantine give them out in quests.

For example, the baked pear literally only takes the Pear. Why not the other variants like Anjou pear, at least?
jeanstarwind
Really enjoying this refresh, so happy I have ingredient baskets saved in my vault!
Beldam
There are no words to express how much I love this * happy squeals. This is your best revamp yet. I can not wait for more recipes down the road. Thank you thank you thank you ❤
Caterpillar
Was part of the tasting and I love the new baking system, it rocks
Maple
I have been playing the new ovens and am loving it! Really appreciate she can buy back whatever we make :D
Chlorr
YESSS! I love the new bakery and I'm glad everybody is getting to experience it now!
taffyann
The whole burning is kind of a crap move. I spent almost 1m sP on ingredients this morning. Go the alert and went immediatley there and it was burnt. If i waited hours or even ten minutes yeah I can see that, but alert, click link, burn is lame. I wont be wasting my sP trying again.
Angelica
This gotta be one of my top favorite revamps. Thank you!!
Rogue
I was in the test and love this refresh!
I hope changes were made to increase both burn rates and exp payouts (or level req) since I last used it this morning. Otherwise Extra Crispy and Rising Dough are going to be almost impossible.
Aurelynn
Thank youuuuuuu!!!
Lenayre
Thank you x100000! These new changes make it so much fun!
