“My task, which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel – it is, before all, to make you see.”
~Jack London~
I have a few houses scattered throughout Subeta. Interior design is a sort of second (third? fourth?) hobby of mine. Admittedly, I have a lot of hobbies. When you travel as much as I do, you learn so much about the cultures of the world and it can be a real challenge not to take an interest in everything. The one in Ziara City allows me to take part in the annual Masquerade Ball without paying the outlandish hotel fees at the Blue Moon Subetasson. (A better stay than the Best Vetan and a far cry above your standard off-branch of Veta Lake's Resort.)
Guo is where my *real* house stands. Sloping lawns that turn pink with cherry blossoms in the spring, a soothing rock garden and a private dock overlooking the gorgeous (and little-known) Guo Lake. It's the place I go to relax and unwind after a filming session, and also the place where I write most of my weekly blog posts.
Inside, I've tried to dedicate a room to every major land in Subeta. You've got your sand-colored carpet and hammock chairs for the Omen Islands, your funky chunky geometric contemporary for Centropolis and your dark and brooding corners for Darkside. (The only land that's ever forced me to hire a security team. Thank goodness we were able to get our filming done in a few days, since there's not much there to attract anyone of a touring nature. Those security toughs are as expensive as fine Saheric Silver and twice as prickly.)
My show "Scouting Subeta's Wonders" is probably what I'm best known for but writing about my travels is what I'm really passionate about. I've authored your rather standard (okay, boring) travel guides for all the major tourist sites from Arctic Frost to Ziara. I've also co-authored the Awesome Attractions art books with such talents as Qui Xen Lain and Splash Ruffieter.
My film crew is small and all the better at their jobs for their intimate knowledge of my habits. Kuroka is my assistant. She can turn one hundred sP into a million overnight and her honey-soft voice could sweet-talk the computers of SAI into giving up their secrets. Haibash our producer can be a little pompous but bring him back a few Omen Island cigars and he's putty in your hands. The twins Mosha and Mishi may just be the best camera operators to ever point a lens and we've got Zakada on sound effects.
Word of advice: Never insult Zakada, even though she may be the most beautiful celinox to ever leave paw prints on Delphi Beach. She has a ridiculous talent for sound effects. She will play that whoopee cushion release at just the optimal moment for maximum effect if needed. Nobody can prove it, but we all know it was her talents that landed one of our former competitors on a cooking show. A bad one. I hear that poor ghostly is off in Arctic Frost selling heating units now.
I try to be generous to my team. I don't believe in keeping your people on standby or making them drop their lives the instant they get your call.
Besides, this is the winter season. Even the vacation paradise spots are a little slow at this time of year. I've earned a few much-needed weeks of rest to spend with Altolà. My minion is almost as fiercely independent as an archan. I may be the only one on this whole planet that can scratch her ears just right to get her to purr.
In a few minutes, we'll go inside and start preparing supper. I'm thinking a sushi sampler platter with a side of fish tacos. (If it's seafood, it's me food.) A couple scoops of ice cream for dessert and perhaps a half-scoop for Alt. I'm partial to chocolate myself. She'll join me if we're having sherbet. I'll take it in any fruity combination you care to name...as long as it isn't pineapple.
For now, we will sit and stare out at the serene water and thank our lucky stars for this life of luxury, adventure and the finest dining.
