Steele Excavations: Cave In!
Bad news, team! You know, the funny thing about ancient ruins is that you really cannot count on them for stability. Imagine my surprise when there we are, trying to blow open the door for the fifth room, and a whole bunch of sand shows up the crash the party! If those grains of sand can't handle the vibrations from a little explosion, I'm not sure this is the right line of work for them.



You're familiar with digging now, no doubt, so grab your trusty Steele Shovel and let's sort this mess out! I suppose those of you that are joining the adventure late could take a glance at the previous rooms to get a hang of the kind of things we're up against.

Steele Excavations: Third Puzzle
It\'s weird how we\'re unveiling about one room a day, isn\'t it? That\'s some crazy organization.It must be because I run a pretty tight ship. I\'m totally like Captain Ahab, and whatever is in that temple is my white whale- wait, scratch that. Doesn\'t Ahab die? And he doesn\'t even catch the whale. What a terrible analogy. I\'m like A Famous Figure who Get\'s Their Prize, and is also Very Organized.




ONWARD. The third room is now available for exploration. It\'s a neat little trial in there. I butt heads with it, and it hounded me for while, but it\'s definitely not boaring. In the end, I\'m sure your come out with the lion\'s share of the treasure.

Steele Excavations: Second Puzzle
Boy, those ancient Saheric were sure fond of brain teasers. I\'ve just returned from exploring the second room of this temple, and this one is going to be a doozy! What exactly is a doozy anyway? It reminds me of a bulldozer, which I could actually use right about now. I\'d mow my way right through this temple to see what is in the innermost chambers! Sadly, we didn\'t have the means to bring in that sort of heavy machinery, so we\'re going to have to solve this puzzle the old fashioned way.



Well, you will. I\'ve been staring at it all day and my head is aching. Meet me in the main chamber of the temple and I\'ll show you my notes.

Spectrum Xotl and Torrey




The pink spots taste like strawberries. The orange spots taste like oranges. The blue spots taste like sudden and unwitting death! Uh oh, didn't we warn you about licking xotls?



This spectrum torrey, on the other hand, is totally safe for licking, but we don't really suggest it.



The xotl and torrey are now available in both spectrum and blacklight! The Blacklight Potion can be found in the Cash Shop!

Steele Excavations: Temple Door Revealed
Hello, Adventurers (and you over there who likes to take breaks every five minutes)!



After several days of near nonstop digging-- at least on my part-- it looks like we\'ve uncovered the entrance to a Saheric temple! That was fortunate that we dug right at the door. Can you imagine how much work it would have been had we been digging along a side or something? "Congratulations, it\'s an ancient dam! Or maybe a curtain wall! Now beat your heads against it a few times because we get to start all over again over here this time." I should thank whoever gave me the coordinates because that would have been a great joke. Hm, or maybe I\'ll keep that in mind to pull on someone else…



Anyway! My crew and I did some very quick exploring and we\'re pleased to report the temple is still fairly structurally sound. (You\'d know it wasn\'t because we\'d probably have nothing to report. I doubt I could have left a note on a caved entrance twice!) I found something rather interesting that I think you should see. Come back to the excavation site and meet me inside!

Server Update!
Hi everyone, we've been working really hard on the server situation in preparation for Blake Steeles most recent adventure!



We've been internally testing a new server software package recently, called NGinx. This provides a lot of benefits over Apache (which is what we use now!) including a smaller memory footprint and increased ability to serve pages. For example, right now our nginx server is running at 1.2GB of memory used, while hte apache servers (with the same amount of user load) are using 4GB of memory.



Here is our current graph of resources. The web server accounts for the light blue portion, which you can see is almost nonexistent now!



Right now we're running on 5 web servers. 4 of them are running apache, and one is running Nginx. We have an excellent opportunity to watch the load on all of these servers, and hope that over the next few weeks we switch to a nginx-only setup.

No doubt some of you have noticed that the crypts are unavailable due to a, er, "explosives related mishap", and are really missing your daily dose of adventure. Why, what's that I hear? Oh, it's me, inviting you to an even more awesome adventure in the distant and exotic Sacred Lands!







Imagine there was a dramatic flourish of music there, please. I should have set something up with a tape recorder of some kind, something with some guitar-- Actually, do they make tape recorders anymore? Or tapes, for that matter? I imagine they make digital recorders, but is it a tape recorder if there is no tape? Food for thought.



Where was I? Oh, adventure! Right! We're accepting all levels of skill for this expedition, so if you are sick of being an ineffectual desk-jockey, come on down to my digsite and I'll give you a rundown of what we're up to.

We know the lag has been kind of a monster today, and we are working on it! We are doing some server restarts right now, so hopefully you should notice a big improvement shortly. We are also working on automating this process, so that eventually, when we have a large volume of traffic onsite at one time, the servers will be able to distribute the load appropriately, even if one of our programmers isn\'t online to do it manually. We are working, I promise!
Hey guys, as our systems start to come back online, you might notice a few bumps here or there, as we start bringing everything back online.



What happened, is our memcached stack failed miserably, but in a really, incredibly sneaky way. From all of our tools and monitoring services, it appeared that memcache was still online and working, just slower than usual, which happens when we have a lot of users doing things that require caching (such as liking avatars on the last day of an event!)



However, what was secretly happening is memcache was "holding" connections, and a server can only have a certain number of open connections running at a time. This includes apache (our web server!), and other services that we run to make Subeta run as smoothly (cough) as possible.



This meant that our web server (and even memcache, trying to steal more connections!) couldn't make the connections to the database, or the other services, and serve pages to you guys, the end user. We couldn't see what was causing that problem, but now we've established that it is memcache and have (hopefully) fixed the problem, and are now in the process of bringing everything back online.



THANK YOU for being so patient with us today, I know that it can be stressful trying to get around the site while something like this is happening, but we really appreciate you sticking with us.



Update: For those of you interested, here is a link to what the graph looked like, when things got seriously bad yikes!
