Just a heads up that on May 1st at 11:59pm, Migrating Masks will be closing shop until next Masquerade! Olivette’s masks from this year along with a mix of previous years will be back next Masquerade.

Vesnali will be ending on May 2nd at 11:59pm. This is when flowers will stop floating. Fortunately for you, we’ve increased the rate of floating flowers a tad bit, as well as the payout in coins for giving and receiving flowers! The Vesnali forums will be closing on May 3rd at 11:59pm.

Unfortunately, quests weren’t counting as weekend quests after midnight. We’ve reset quests for today though, so you have a chance to redo them!

I have six new Vesnali themed recipes for you to try at my Bakery! These recipes will stick around after Vesnali, don't worry.

You’ll notice a few of the older recipes have been updated. Butter is now it’s own category, like sugar or milk! You can use a stick of butter, these fancy new butter compounds, or vegan butter now! All of these buttery items can be found restocking in the Food Market.

Help Chimalma at Delphi Beach by catching the bugs she asks for.



How do you catch bugs? Easy! Once you offer to help her, you’ll find the bug you’re look for floating around the site. Click the bug and bring it back to her! Chimalma is nice enough to let you keep the bugs you show her. Unlike bird watching, there are no area specific bugs, so you can find the bugs anywhere around the site.



You can only help her once a day, so remember to visit her every day. There’s an achievement in it for you if you catch all 30. Bug Catching will be around until the end of August!

The first time you agree to help Chimalma out, she will give you one copy of Bugs As Inspiration for free. If you want another copy, you’ll have to buy it from the Millionaire Center

Hey, Gold Account users, we have a new perk for you!



Starting today, you can use quick stock (make sure you're not in a legacy shop!) to move items from your inventory straight into collections. Currently, this works for: beanbags, bobbleheads, minions, pastries, plushies, pumpkins, trading cards, and wooden tiles. Food and books are not included because they are pet-specific, and stickers are not included because we don't want to get in the way of The Hustler's... hustle.



This feature is currently in testing. If you notice any issues, or have any suggestions on how we can improve on it, please head to the appropriate forum.

Hello! Are you enjoying Vesnali? It's my absolute favorite time of year. Esther and I have gone rather bug-crazy this holiday, I do love the little crawlers! Except for when they're eating our plants...but thankfully there are lots of harmless ways to prevent them - we don't like to hurt any creature, great or small!



Speaking of bugs - can you believe the zasaba? What a beautiful pet! I managed to bring some to Peka Glade in order to see how they reacted to the water there, and just look how beautiful the glade zasaba is! It had a particularly interesting reaction - changing its body shape a little as well as the usual color, flora and fauna changes. It must have a special relationship with nature!

Have you been looking for a nice (and humane) place to put all of your lovely minions when they aren’t helping keep your pet happy? Luckily for you, Minion Zoos are now live! You can find your minion zoo by visiting the games page under Collection.



You can send your minions to your zoo by choosing your minion in your inventory and hitting the “Send Minion to Zoo” option. The option to move all from your inventory has been removed! It was tied to minions that had stats for battling, which was not released with this, so it was not moving all minions to your collection.



You are more than welcome to have multiples of the same minion in your zoo, and unlike other collections, you can actually remove your minions if you want! No one will judge you if you have an entire zoo full of chickens or adorable food related cuties like the I-Love-You Rainbow.



You can even show off your impressive zoo to anyone you want! They’ll be listed under the “Extra Userinfo” widget on profiles if you want a quick link to give to friends. On the public view page, your minions will be sorted alphabetically. However on your homepage, you can view them by item name or time in zoo.



If you had minions in the zoo previously during the Gold Account testing, you'll be happy to find them already settling into their new home!



And if you don't have any minions for your zoo, you could always stop by my shop. I have plenty of minions in need of a good home!

If you play your cards right you can add this classic trading card to your collection.

The Cavern of Curios has five new butterfly inspired vases. The vases transform into the lovely drapes if you’re feeling the need for a more sheer wearable!

Vesnali is here at last! Come visit my shop for all sorts of interesting goodies. During this past month, my gardens have been visited by quite a few bugs, and they served as inspiration for some of my stock this year. Remember, I only accept Vesnali Coins, so stock up on them by giving your friends those floating flowers!

Hand out flowers to your friends and chat on the Vesnali Forum! Vesnali ends on May 2nd at 11:59pm; the flowers will stop floating at this time and the forum will close on May 3rd at 11:59pm. You’ll no longer be able to earn coins after the flowers stop floating, but my shop will be open all year!

More updates for the new User Shops! We're increased the limits on shops to 2,000 items for regular accounts, and 2,500 for gold accounts. Galleries have been increased to 4,000 for regular accounts and 6,000 for gold accounts. We're continuing to monitor these changes and increase the limits if possible.



We've also added the legacy shops back into the shop search, making it easier to buy items for your quests that haven't been moved over yet.

As of today, all shops from the old system are closed. You can no longer reprice items there or have users purchase from those shops, you will however still be able to remove items! We are not deleting old shops, so you can take your time removing items.



Just a reminder that normal users are able to have 4 shops and galleries while gold account users are able to have 6 shops and galleries. The limits on items are still 750 for shops and 2500 for galleries for normal users and 1000 for shops and 4000 for galleries for gold account users, though these are still not final!

Bad news, everyone, there's a thief on the loose! This little wolf has stolen some poor girl's cape and basket, and has thwarted all previous attempts to get them back. We did just find a map to the creature's hideaway, however, and if you're brave and strong, perhaps you can help us apprehend this thief.

The new user shops are now live for everyone!



The limits have been raised once more and are now 750 for shops and 2500 for galleries for normal users and 1000 for shops and 4000 for galleries for gold account users. These limits are not final and will be increasing in the next couple of weeks, especially for galleries.



As of today, you can no longer add items to old shops. You can, however, continue to sell from them until the 24th, when older shops will be completely disabled. After that, you’ll still be able to remove items from them, you just won’t be able to reprice your items or have users purchase from them. There are tools to move all your items from old shops and vaults to the new shops!



For those wondering about the still active shop achievements, if you’re working toward the shop till achievements, make sure you transfer your till from your older shops to new shops to continue your progress. You can do this by visiting your old shop’s till page! If you already have progress toward the Making a Living achievement, there's nothing you need to do! The sales from your old shop will automatically be added to the sales from your highest-earning shop to continue progressing toward the achievement. If you do happen to make more sales in your old shop before they're disabled, though (or your achievement progress is out of date!), you can update your progress by visiting the shop's edit page, the same place the Making a Living achievement was previously earned. Super Shop! and Hoarder! have both retired.

We’ve raised the limits of the shops and galleries in testing, which we will continue monitoring and have plans to increase after additional testing. The limits are now 500 for shops and 2,000 for galleries for normal users and 750 for shops and 3,000 for galleries for gold account users.



Those of you participating in the beta testing, remember to report any bugs here! Make sure to keep updated on changes, like moving all of your items from shops and vaults to the new shops.

Gourmands rejoice! Your pets will now get hungrier a bit faster as they eat more unique foods. This should help feeding them all of those exotic treats go more quickly once they've developed their palates! Make sure you visit your "food eaten" page to update your tally. Then sit back and eat up.

Spring flowers have appeared all over Shengui Guo and with them, something quite special - the Zasaba! Zasaba eggs hatch around the time of "flower-viewing", and it's said that the one that spots the first hatchling in an area is considered to have great luck for the rest of the year.



Inhabitants of Shengui Guo have raised these insect pets for many years now, and as they were aware of their imminent arrival, were able to work with the Create-A-Pet Center to bring them to you!

Below you can find the FAQ, which is also posted in the Gold Account forums, for the new User Shops Beta Testing. We will continue to add on to this as needed based on frequent questions from the original news post, the site feedback thread, and the Beta Testing thread.





Why do we even need new shops?

User shops have been bogging down the site for years. They are the single biggest resource hog that we have, often taking up 25%-40% of the database's entire server load. A big part of this is that the shops were never designed to hold as many items as they do now. The database tables are badly indexed, and badly optimized for the data they're holding, and there is simply too much in them to even try to fix those problems. Starting over from scratch allows us essentially a blank slate without those problems existing in the first place. The new database tables and code have been built with modern practices and will scale better to the amounts of information they will hold.



The reason we're doing something about it now is we believe the user shops have been causing huge bottlenecks in our database, and are a major reason for the 502s and 504s of late.



How will changing the shops help with the lag? Because of the new limits, everyone will be piling items in their vaults, so it's just displacing the problem and not solving anything.

User shops exist on a table, and when you "write" or "edit" a table, it has to "lock" so that information is preserved. If you update the price in your user shop, or an item is purchased, or any type of edit on the table, the entire table has to lock for some amount of time, which means that the next query (looking up items, also purchasing an item, etc) gets put a few milliseconds behind until the first one is done. These pileup and you end up with 5-6 seconds for a query to finish, or sometimes 30+ seconds, which is where the errors happen because the servers timeout waiting on the query to finish.



This doesn't happen with vaults, or wardrobes, because there aren't nearly that many things on the site hitting them. People aren't frequently updating the price of items in their wardrobes, frequently adding/removing items from them, or anything like that. Vaults aren't used when we release a new feature, or when quests are changed, or whatever the case is that people rush to buy things from user shops and everything starts crumbling. Vaults don't currently have a processing time of 3-4 seconds on updates that hang the entire server process, etc.



Item limits??

We've been warning these were coming for years, and they're finally here. But, as mentioned in the news post, we anticipate these initial limits will be raised quite a bit before we settle on final numbers. And even after they're "final" there's always the chance they could be raised again in the future.



We’ve started with lower numbers to start testing, because it’s a lot easier to start of small and increase as we test rather than start off with large limits and have to decrease as we go!



How do I get to the new shops?

Glad you asked! You can start making your own shops here, and the new shop search is located here. The new shop search will include results from both the new and legacy shops (until the old shops are disabled), so if you want to be sure you're getting the best prices, you should use it!



Is beta testing safe? Will I lose my items?

All of the basic functions have been fully tested by staff members, and all of your items should be perfectly safe. That said, if anything goes wrong, please post HERE to tell me what went wrong, and file a ticket. Everything is being logged and a UA will be able to help you.



Will there be a way to move all of my items from an old gallery to a new one?

We're talking about this behind the scenes, trying to come up with a solution, but right now there is no easy solution for it. For example, how to transfer an old shop to a new one that is bigger than the new item limits. Or simply how to move the items without killing the database.



We agree that it's a very important issue, and we will come up with a solution that we hope fits everyone's needs. In the meantime, access to your items in old shops and galleries will never go away, even after the shops themselves are disabled.



Do I need to move everything right away?

No! You do not have to have your transition complete by the day we expect the new shops to go live. Your items will still exist. You can move them out and to your new shops at your own pace.



If I'm reporting a bug, what information should I include?

1. The page the bug occurred on

2. What happened, to the best of your knowledge

3. Can you reproduce it (ie can you cause it to happen again by doing the same thing)?

4. Steps to reproduce, if possible

5. The browser and version that you use

Okay but what’s being done about hoarding items?

Ariel and I have a few things to help discourage hoarding and give users more reasons to use their items in more ways, though you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Our immediate plans include allowing more items to become fraggable and looking into the Recycle Beast (mostly ways to make it easier for people to recycle things to him). Users have been coming up with great suggestions, like making a food day where you can feed as many foods as you can to a pet or just making pets get hungrier faster. Don’t hesitate to post your own ideas! Not all of the suggestions listed HERE are uses for items, some are for unique ways to display items (like toys your pets have played with).

Attention, Gold Account users! We have a new feature for you to test--revamped Shops and Galleries!



The user shops and galleries have been rewritten because they currently put a huge stress on our database, and it's affecting the ability of the site to function.



For the new shops and galleries, we’ve set limits for how many items you can have in each, which means we’ll be retiring the Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements. Currently the limits are as follows: you can have 250 unique items in a shop, and 500 in a gallery. This limit doubles to 500 in a shop, 1000 in a gallery if you have a Gold Account. These limits are only for unique items, you'll be able to have as many duplicates as you'd like.



Your items won't disappear if your Gold Account expires while over the limit, you just won't be able to add any more until you have either sold/removed enough items or have an active Gold Account again. You can have up to 3 shops/galleries, or up to 6 with a Gold Account. We anticipate being able to raise these limits significantly, but we wanted to start off small and increase rather than starting off big and having to reduce it.



Gold Account testing for will be active until 11:59pm on April 16th. The new user shops/galleries will be released to everyone on the 17th. Once the new shops are live, you will not be able to add anything new to your old shops!



On April 24th, all old shops will be disabled. You’ll still be able to remove items from them, you just won’t be able to reprice items or have other users purchase from it.



The Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements will be retired on the 17th once the shops/galleries go live for everyone.



Information and a link to the new shops can be found here if you're a Gold Account member. User not found: grelca will start pushing changes/fixing bugs on the 13th, so keep that in mind as you submit feedback. We will continue to make any necessary changes once shops/galleries are live for everyone to make sure they’re working to their full potential!



We know this will be a big change for a lot of people, but it's a crucial step for the continued improvement and success of the site, and for your overall user experience.

What an … interesting fashion choice for the Recycle Beast!

Step aside, Blake, now I’m the handsome one in this bromance! I’m actually crying right now, this is the best birthday gift I’ve ever gotten! I mean, I am definitely still rocking some unusual fashion choices, but beggars can’t be choosers.



Is this the start of a brave new age of Elwood? This year, a revamp, next year, the world an actual storefront! Do you think Fantine has room for another cook over at that bakery for build-your-own pizzas?

The wait time between dances has been decreased for the remainder of the event! The Masquerade will be over at 11:59pm on April 3rd. Remember that the Masquerade forums will close at 11:59pm on the 4th, so you have time to get prizes out for any contests you might be running. :)

Good news, everyone! That day for which I know we have all been eagerly waiting has arrived - Elwood Day is here! And there’s even more good news, because today is also the day that I receive the revamp I have been requesting for years.



Now, honestly, it’s not exactly what I was expecting. I was hoping for something a bit more… I don’t know? Suave? Dashing? It’s not that I don’t appreciate the, er, “free spirited” nature of my color, I am a guy that can appreciate some anarchy, just, you know, I was hoping to have my fashion disaster fixed.



I mean, I guess they did capture my essence, and if I’m going to be delivering pizza from an alternate dimension beyond the bounds of the physical map, my artwork may as well match that spirit of whimsy. Also, I got a sweet darkmatter pizza, and you have to admit that I am tossing it with amazing artisanal skill.



Inspired by my amazing revamp, I’ve added a very special Limited Edition Darkmatter Pizza to my menu, and I personally guarantee that eating it will only cause minor side effects!
