Vidar wasn’t always silent. It was only when he learned his father would die that he took the oath of silence.

Vidar was one of the sons of Odin’s various flings. His mother was a Jotunn named Girdr. She raised him until he was of age, then sent him to Odin, who she believed could give him a better life. It wasn’t that his life was bad or that he lived in squalor, it was simply that young boys needed their father and Odin had and could provide more.

Vidar grew up along side Tyr, Heimdall, and Thor, learning the art of being a man. The four got along well and were often seen practicing in the fighting rings or drinking together when they weren’t busy working on helping build the great city that stood in the middle of Asgard. He was nearly able to beat Thor, until Thor got his belt of strength. Tyr and Vidar were near equal in strength, but Tyr practiced more and held the advantage due to skill.

It wasn’t until Odin spoke of the prophecy of Ragnarok to his sons that Vidar began to really start honing his skill. He made an oath that he would forsake speaking and better prepare so that he would be ready for Ragnarok. And from that day forward the jovial, talkative Vidar was silent.

Many people seemed to over look or dismiss him because never said anything. It wasn’t that he didn’t have anything to say, just that he would not break his oath. In fact, Vidar has one thing he really wants to express… he wants to ask Eir to marry him.

Eir was the healer who often tended the wounds he received while training it raiding. Vidar fell in love with gentle soul, yet fierce personality and found himself wanting to train harder and get injured so he could visit her more often. She saw him and spoke to him despite the fact he could not reply.

Then one day when they met eye contact he could see something deep within hers, and he could not help but to kiss her. She kissed him back, and one thing led to another, resulting in him getting her with child. That’s when he knew she felt for him the same as he felt for her, and decided he wanted to marry her.

But until Ragnarok arrives, he will remain silent and continue to train and practice and prepare for the inevitable doom that is said to come. Vidar would protect his kin, and Eir, no matter what it costs.
